Lissa Martinez Greer

A little about me: I have a passion for helping students succeed in college. I have worked in higher education as a student affairs professional since 2009 and have a Master of Science in Education degree in Student Affairs Administration in Higher Education. My years of professional experience span across college access programming, housing and residence life, student affairs leadership, and career services at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire. Providing developmental experiences, a sense of belonging, and connecting students to resources and opportunities gives me great joy as I aspire to set students up for success now and for their futures.

Education:

  • Bachelor of Arts, Mass Communications Public Relations, University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire
  • Master of Science in Education, Student Affairs Administration in Higher Education, University of Wisconsin-La Crosse

Important social identities: I identify as a woman who is biracial from a middle-class family. My mother is white, and my father is Puerto Rican.

My advice to students starting their first semester of college: Stay true to yourself and find a healthy daily routine. Try new things to learn more about who you are, who you want to be, and the world around you. Remember why you are here and what you want to accomplish in college. If you are not sure, ask for help, because there are so many staff on campus who care about you and want you to be successful.

My interests/hobbies:

  • Being outside, enjoying nature, cabin life
  • Spending time with family and friends
  • Travel and trying new things

While in college, I experienced... so many awesome opportunities that were also daunting and hard work. I took risks, said yes, and got involved resulting in lifelong friendships, valuable skill development, networking, an expanded worldview, self-knowledge, and more that I would not trade for anything (examples: student-athlete for women’s volleyball, on-campus employment, student organizations, studying abroad for six months in Valladolid, Spain).

My coaching mindset is... I value getting to know each of my unique students, learning what they care about to determine their goals while empowering them to help themselves. My coaching role assists with providing options, connecting to resources, and providing support and encouragement along the way.
